Biographical Text

Situated between art-making and archaelogy, the artistic practice of Fazleen Karlan (b.1993, Singapore) explores the themes of loss and time by mapping out the patterns of physical erasures within landscapes and socio-historical contexts. By engaging the historical stratifications of a site, her work navigates methods of archiving and reassembling fragments of overlooked histories to reimagine personal and cultural realities. Fazleen graduated with a BA in Fine Arts (First Class Honours) from LASALLE College of the Arts, conferred by Goldsmiths, University of London. Her works are regularly presented in Singapore, including in exhibitions such as d3arsucc3ss0r at Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay (2022); Between the Living and the Archive and Pivot Point, Gillman Barracks (2021); and Time Passes, National Gallery Singapore (2020). She received the Anugerah Cemerlang Mendaki Award in 2019 and the Winston Oh Travel Award in 2016.
