Mapletree Business City, Green Bowl, 60 Pasir Panjang Road, Singapore 117438

On the occasion of the presence of the celebrated British artist Yinka Shonibare CBE (RA) (Nigeria/United Kingdom), NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore (NTU CCA Singapore) and Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd. cordially invite you to a conversation between Yinka Shonibare CBE (RA), artist; and Edmund Cheng (Singapore), Chairman, Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd; moderated by Ute Meta Bauer (Germany/Singapore), Founding Director, NTU CCA Singapore, and Professor, School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University.

The title of the conversation, Artists as Citizens, draws on artistic strategies of activating the public through art, which the artist also describes in an interview in the forthcoming publication Culture City. Culture Scape. (Singapore 2020). It explores the broader cultural and artistic developments of the permanent installations at Mapletree Business City II by internationally renowned artists Dan Graham (United States), Zulkifle Mahmod (Singapore), Tomás Saraceno (Argentina/Germany) and Yinka Shonibare CBE (RA) (Nigeria/United Kingdom). Culture City. Culture Scape. situates their practices within a regional discourse on art in the city from the perspectives of corporate social responsibility and public art education.

This conversation is accompanied by a performance by Samba Masala (Singapore Management University) and followed by a reception and guided tours of the Public Art Trail at Mapletree. The event is held in conjunction with the Singapore Art Week 2020.
